Who is the CompuDoc?
The Compudoc, in his alter ego of Andrew du Toit, has been working with computers for over 20 years. He was trained as a professional computer programmer, and started providing technical support for clients when turbo XTs and the early 286's were the state of the art in computer hardware. A large part of his duties as a programmer at a world-class mining software developer in Vancouver was resolving hardware and software conflicts and other issues by telephone, fax, email for clients all over the world, and by site visits for those clients who had offices nearby. Soon, he started fixing and assembling his own computers at work and at home. It wasn't long before friends, relatives and neighbors starting asking for help with their computers. Andrew soon became expert at upgrading computers, fixing hardware and software installation problems, and teaching people useful tricks in how to use their computers.
The Compudoc honed his tutoring skills mentoring junior programmers, some one-on-one and group (small) tutoring sessions about using operating systems and a wide variety of applications, technical writing (newsletter articles, user guides and tip sheets), and eventually, hosting seminars and workshops at international user-group conferences held by his employer for clients using their world-class mining software.
The compudoc's first experience with Website design came about when a musician friend asked for some help with his website over 20 years ago. He has continued with the design and/or maintenance of a variety of websites : from a simple house rental website to one for a retired teacher who now writes books on teaching dyslexic children. He has been maintaining a number of wordpress websites in the last couple of years and always listens to the client regardg website priorities.
