Below are the most common questions people have about Compudoc Mobile Services
How long have you been fixing computers?
I started assembling and repairing computers when I was a programmer, and moved on to technical support (about half of my time) for 9 years long before I started my own company. I have been running Compudoc since 2004, and have kept up with advances as they become available.
Are you really mobile?
Yes. I don't have an office or store. I have a toolkit which contains everything I need to solve most computer problems. However, it is still a good idea to tell me what you would like help with, so I can bring bulky or less-common tools or equipment if it might be needed. For website work, I have a laptop computer loaded with website editing tools so I can work with clients at their location to design and implement a website according to their budget and requirements.
Can you help with my smart phone or tablet?
Yes - I have setup many Android & Apple smart phones. I can help get your device connected to your wireless network or email address.
Do you have any unusual computer repair specialties?
Yes is do - several actually. I have an interest in working with the linux operating system. Linux has many different versions (better known as distributions), and some of the best ones (IMHO) have 'live' versions available. These live versions allow a knowledgeable computer user to boot a computer where the operating system is not functioning, and recover inaccessible files such as pictures, documents, music, email, etc. If your computer won't start up, it may be difficult or impossible to retrieve your files without a means of accessing the hard drive.
I have converted vinyl albums into audio CDs for a few customers, and I have also copied camcorder tapes onto DVDs for a couple of people.
I also have considerable experience using office software, and can provide advice and tutoring on the subject of creating document templates for office use, or setting up formulas in spreadsheets.
One other specialty i have is an interest in ergonomic issues. If your chair position or keyboard location is giving you headaches or sore forearms, I may be able to help reduce these unpleasant side effects of improper desk position or setup.
Do you sell new or used computers?
Yes, I can assemble a new computer according to your specific business or home needs, and occasionally, a client gives me their old computer(s) to cleanup and refurbish for a good home or take to the recycling depot.
Does Compudoc offer any free advice?
Yes. I have advice on various subjects posted on my blog. Subjects include how to recognize email scams, getting a website, managing account passwords, etc. I will add advice on more subjects as time permits.
Can you explain computer stuff so I can understand it?
Yes. Someone once called me a 'Geek to English translator'. All those years of doing technical support when I was a programmer helped me work out how to explain unfamiliar concepts to non-computer people.
Do you have customer service?
Of course! However, I am a one man company, so please try not to call on holidays, evening, or weekends unless it is urgent or to arrange a housecall during business hours.
Can I add comments to one of your posts?
Yes, if you have a legitimate comment to add, there are 2 things to do in order to be setup to add comments. First, you would need to register as a user on my blog. Second, I would need to change your user role to contributor for the blog.
Unfortunately, there are too many people who feel that blogs are places to post commercial ads or other material which has absolutely nothing to do the the subject of the blog posting. This kind of comment will be removed and the poster blocked from all future comment postings.
